The government of the Benue state has reported the first COVID-19 event.
The governor, Samuel Ortom, who confirmed this to the newsmen today, March 28, said that the index case is a woman, Susan Okpe, who recently came back from Britain. He said she is currently being handled.
The governor said the patient’s identity was released so that anyone who may have had some contact with her over the last two weeks could come in for monitoring and isolation.
He appealed to state citizens not to stigmatize the patient but instead to help her and anyone who may have been in close touch with her.
